The Truth About – What Does a Wedding Planner Do: 10 Things You Might Not Expect (Part 2)

What does a wedding planner do – The Experience

6. Never Problems

One of my past brides specifically mentioned this after her wedding. And it’s something I pride myself on- never coming to you with with a problem, only a solution.

During the planning process and especially on your wedding day, you won’t be burdened with extra things to think about beyond potentially selecting your preferred solution for whatever has come up.

‘Here’s what has happened, and here are a few ways we can deal with it for you.

What would you prefer?’ Taking all the stress and worry out of any situation.

7. Only Solutions

After many months of planning together, I’ll have got to know you well enough to be able to pretty much pre-empt your decisions or responses to any given situation.

A big part of what does a wedding planner do is to deal swiftly with any issues as and when they arrive.

With the aim being that the couple won’t know there was an issue until it has been resolved and a solution found – if you need to know at all. Valuing honesty & transparency I will however not interrupt your enjoyment of the planning or the wedding day unless absolutely necessary.

After all that’s why you hire me and after the many months of planning together having got to know you both being able to pretty much pre-empt your decision or response to the situation.

8. Your problems become my problems

An example from a beautiful Cotswolds summer wedding.

There was an issue with the photographer’s laptop which was supposed to be projecting images onto the wall throughout the evening.

I drove back to my Air BnB, collected my laptop and we got it all working again. And my couple didn’t know anything about it until someone mentioned it to them the following day!

If an issue arises and there is a way I can quickly and easily solve it, I’ll do so with no fuss.

In this scenario, it was totally unnecessary for my couple to know what needed to be done. On your wedding day your problems become my problems, and it’s hugely important to me that I fix them on your behalf wherever possible.

9. Beyond the surface

Part of my service is to go beyond the surface level on your behalf.

Even if that means digging deeper with suppliers or having difficult conversations to find solutions.

If you’ve communicated to me that something specific is important to you and your suppliers push back, it’s my job to navigate through that and find a solution everyone (particularly you!) is happy with.

I negotiate and problem-solve to achieve the outcome you want. While retaining supplier satisfaction and ensuring the relationship between you, me and them doesn’t break down.

These conversations can be difficult to navigate by yourself, so you’ll always have me to advocate for your wishes and stand in your corner.

As my client your happiness is my top priority!

10. Always Working

Finally, something big that an independent wedding planner does is almost never completely switch off from planning mode!

Always on the lookout for ideas, inspiration and options for couples And aware that opportunities can arise in the strangest or least expected ways.

Whilst on a dog walk, I abandoned my hubby and Benson as I spotted a stunning white Rolls Royce parked up outside a nearby wedding venue. They were setting up for a wedding showcase, and coincidentally was on the hunt for a wedding car for one of my brides.

I hot-footed it over, took some pictures and details, and messaged my clients to see if they were free to come and view it that afternoon. Et voila! One wedding car found under truly unexpected circumstances!

Another being on a recent trip to a take part in a discussion panel I was heading into London, and had to take a replacement bus service as part of my train journey. Not ideal, but I did take the chance to note down the coach companies being used so I can contact them for two of my clients’ weddings.

Every cloud has a silver lining.
